THE ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATION, London

This two-days workshop was about learning how to compose a drawing in order to illustrate an idea and exporing various tools in order to combine them into a finale image.

 "What to prepare and bring to the workshop :

- bring large sheets of paper and pencils and pens;

- prepare one or two sentences that explain entirely the project, including the “what if” (as the new context) and the consequences. The description of the project needs to be very short and clear.

- prepare a list of key words that defines the project ( max five ).”

Improving their drawing/visualisation was part of the development of their project. It helped them to develop some elements and sharpen their proposal. They started to think about the specificities (light conditions, wet/damp/humid or dry/thin air (How to visualise it), material/colour palette, surface textures, atmosphere etc) through their drawing and try to be as expressive and defined/detailed as possible.

I divided the workshop into two stages : Composition and Combination.

The first stage allowed them to establish what story their drawing will tell and what specific feature of the project they want to illustrate. The second stage was about finding their own way to express their concepts. They had to combine at least two tools ( hand drawings, digital modeling, physical models, etc.) to illustrate their project.
