Bartlett Summer School 2012
With Catrina Stewart and Hugh McEwen
In 2012, with our chosen title of “Transport for London” we naturally made sure that the students took all the forms of transport in London that you can imagine, and some that you can’t.
We used quick and slow methods of drawing and mo delling to free the students up and let them explore. By the end of the first week they had come up with a proposal for a type of building in the city that would be mutated by coming into contact with a mode of transport. During the following week, the students began to represent the building they had created in the way that suited them and the project best.

With Stefan Lengen and Kyriakos Katsaros
Our group examined the principles of interactive/responsive design – including hands-on workshops based on the Arduino microprocessor prototyping platform. The designed and built Heath Robinson-inspired devices, that responded to the movement around them by setting off a cascade of ping-pong balls and blowing soap-bubbles.
During the Summer School, I gave several lectures about architectural drawings and how to communicate a project. We had several drawing workshops, along with model making workshops and Arduino studio. The students worked individually and in groups for the final presentation. Each of them had a responsability within the group and learnt how to listen and exchange with other in order to develop a project collectively.
